Ever since Niklas Süle was announced as being a Borussia Dortmund player from next season onwards, Manuel Akanji has been the subject of exit rumours.
Manchester United were immediately thrown into the mix, with Ralf Rangnick said to be the one pursuing the Switzerland International.
A fee of €25m or so has been touted for the centre-back, who has never hidden his desire to play in the Premier League one day, meaning we can expect this to continue for the foreseeable future.
Ruhr Nachrichten give their two cents on the matter on Thursday, looking at what all this could mean for everyone at Borussia Dortmund.
They point out that ‘most recently, it was said that Manchester United had shown strong interest’, which clearly isn’t their own information, but what is is the fact that ‘if Akanji wants to go, Borussia will place him on the market this year so that a replacement can still be achieved for the Swiss’.
They reckon €30m could be obtained for the defender’s services, even with the fact he has just over a year on his contract left, and has reportedly rejected the first renewal offer from his current club.
So, Dortmund are open to a sale if Akanji asks for it.
Now it’s up to Rangnick to see if he can work his magic and bring him to Manchester United.
