River Plate will make ‘one last attempt’ to keep Claudio Echeverri from Manchester City and with them for at least another year.
That’s according to Claro Sports, who say the Argentine side are hoping to convince Manchester City to let them keep their young star for an extended period of time.
Manchester City signed Echeverri at the beginning of this year, moving quickly to secure the young Argentine star ahead of any potential competition.
They eventually struck a deal that will see him move to the Etihad at the end of this year, leaving him to continue his development at River Plate in the meantime.
It seems the Argentine side aren’t entirely happy about that, though, and so will try to negotiate with Manchester City again to find a new deal.
This is something it seems they’ve been doing for a while but they ‘will make one last attempt’ to retain him, with the hope of extending his stay into 2025.
Their big bargaining chip is that they are set to play in the Club World Cup in 2025, which would provide Echeverri with a good opportunity to gain experience at the highest level and even perhaps push himself into contention for the Argentine national team.
They would be major bonuses for Manchester City, and it seems River Plate are hoping they’ll tempt them into agreeing new terms.
