With Cristiano Ronaldo still to confirm whether he’s staying or leaving Manchester United this summer, bookmakers have been pointing out a return to Sporting as his most likely destination.
That’s the reason why Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã wrote a piece about this situation today. They don’t have any information about the player’s decision, but do bring the scenario from the Lisbon side.
The outlet writes that at Sporting, no one has ‘any doubts’ that Ronaldo would be welcomed ‘with open arms’, as that would put the club on a ‘world level’.
Correio da Manhã points out the Lions have a salary cap where they can pay no one over €2m per season. Still, they claim money is no problem for Ronaldo, as his sponsors would already provide a huge salary.
They say taking this pay cut to join his former club would be a way to ‘thank the support’ from the side who launched him to the world.
It’s claimed Sporting ‘vibrate’ with this possibility, both because of the sporting impact his comeback would have and also from a market point of view, as he can move ‘many millions’ only with shirt sales.
So if the player does decide it’s time to go back home, the Lions seem ready to take him.
