Schalke are watching Newcastle United’s pursuit of AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw with interest as they could be set to benefit from the deal.
That’s according to WAZ, who report that the German side could be set to earn ‘millions of income’ from their former youth product.
The newspaper explains how Newcastle are believed to be courting the former Schalke man, who currently plays for AC Milan in Italy.
This has aroused the interest of his former club, who would also benefit from a transfer should it happen.
Any move for him, be it to Newcastle or anywhere else, would bring in extra money for the Gelsenkirchen side, who sold him to Milan for €8.8m in August 2022.
That deal includes bonus related payments and a resale clause for 10% of the net proceeds from a transfer in future. In plainer terms, Schalke are due 10% of the profits Milan would make from selling the defender at any point in future.
So, if Newcastle step forward and pay big for him this summer, the Germans could be set to earn ‘several million Euros’ in the process.
They’re keeping a keen eye on proceedings then, with Newcastle yet to make an official bid but the prospect very much there and Schalke rubbing their hands at the prospect of extra income.
