Ajax have been warned that the longer they linger on a deal for Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn, the higher his price will become.
The Dutch forward is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, having failed to establish himself since his move in January 2020.
Tottenham are now seemingly ready to move him on as a result, with Antonio Conte happy for him to leave and the funds be reinvested in the squad.
Ajax have been linked since the January transfer window when they made several bids for his services but couldn’t strike a deal with Spurs.
Their interest has not gone away, and several reports from the Netherlands have made it clear that they are looking at getting a deal over the line in this summer transfer window.
So far, that has not happened, although negotiations are underway, with most expecting it to go through at some point.
According to journalist Valentijn Driessen, though, the Dutch giants risk pricing themselves out of a deal.
“As long as you keep dawdling, that transfer price will go up, of course,” he told the Kick-Off Voetbalpodcast, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
“They are now saying €25m. But that’s not coming from Spurs, that amount. Why would Spurs sell him when they know they have a gold mine in their hands?
“He will probably also go to the World Cup, he will play at the World Cup, he is developing very well with the Dutch team.
“If he can continue that at Spurs, he might even become a basic player. So that’s a guy I don’t think you’ll get for under €30m.”
