AS Roma’s interest in Bernard continues to drag along, as the Serie A side, who beat Crotone 3-1 on Wednesday evening, mull over their options.

It remains a two man race between Stephan El Shaarawy and the Everton forward, with each offering their pros and cons.

As already explained numerous times, the Italy international would be cheaper and would find it far easier to adapt to the AS Roma environment midway through a campaign as he’s already played for them in the past.

Regarding Bernard, Paulo Fonseca is keen to reunite with his former player, having managed him at Shakhtar in the past, and with the opportunity to offload Robin Olsen permanently to Goodison Park in the process, this appears to be the favourite route.

We say this because Corriere dello Sport on Thursday claim that ‘before committing’ to a move for El Shaarawy, Tiago Pinto and co. want to ‘study the possible exchange with Everton’ that would involve the Swedish goalkeeper and his current Brazilian teammate.

With Fonseca ‘rating’ Bernard, the Portuguese manager is currently ‘waiting for happy news’ regarding this move.
