Chelsea target Julian Weigl should be available for a move in this transfer window, according to reports from the Portuguese media today.
Newspaper A Bola features a story saying the midfielder is ‘in the market’, as Benfica are in need of cashing in with their most valuable assets.
The Eagles would like to make a big sale before the end of the financial year, which is on the 30th of June, and set Weigl’s price at €30m.
Speaking of the clubs who are interested in him, A Bola says the player has a market in Germany and England, but only really names Chelsea as a potential new club.
The outlet writes that Thomas Tuchel is an ‘admirer’, as he’s worked with Weigl at Borussia Dortmund and even tried to take him to PSG.
They point out that Chelsea’s priority is the signing of Declan Rice of West Ham, but his price tag of €100m makes him a lot more expensive than the German player.
Another reason why Benfica would like to sell Weigl is that they still spend a lot with his signing. Even though they bought him on a €20m deal in January 2020, the club are still paying the instalments, and spend €9m per season if considering his salary and the transfer fee.
