Club want ‘high single-digit million’ to let manager join Brighton – Seagulls efforts ongoing to appoint De Zerbi’s successor

Brighton & Hove Albion are making progress in their efforts to appoint FC St. Pauli manager Fabian Hürzeler as Roberto De Zerbi’s successor.

On Sunday, Sky Deutschland stated that Brighton have a deal in place with the 31-year-old, and they have to find an agreement with the German club.

This is backed up by Kicker, who add that the Seagulls have initiated talks with St. Pauli for the American.

He was vital in helping St. Pauli secure promotion back to the Bundesliga. His current deal doesn’t have a release clause, but the report says he has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with his club to allow his exit, if there’s an interesting opportunity.

This should benefit Brighton, but the deal won’t be straightforward for them. If the German club were to let Hürzeler leave, they wouldn’t have sufficient time to search and easily appoint his replacement. It would also cost them to bring in a new manager.

Therefore, Kicker explain that St. Pauli want Brighton to pay a ‘high single-digit million’ fee for Hürzeler.
