Manchester United have a keen interest in signing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong this summer.
The La Liga side’s economic conditions have forced them to raise funds and the 25-year-old’s sale can help them in this regard. Therefore, they are willing to let him leave even though he wants to continue at the Camp Nou.
For the past two days, Marca have had two reports stating that United made an offer to the La Liga side for the midfielder. They are now joined by El Chiringuito.
According to El Chiringuito journalist Jose Alvarez Haya, Erik ten Hag’s side have made an offer of around €50m for the Netherlands international. This proposal is not even close to the €80m fee demanded by the Spanish club.
If the Red Devils want to secure De Jong’s services, they may have to improve their offer and then try to convince Barca to lower their demands.
Claims made by both Marca and El Chiringuito have been dismissed by today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan newspaper states the Spanish side have not received any proposals so far for the player.
They further add De Jong is no longer a priority for Xavi Hernández’s side and the player is well aware that Barca may sell him this summer.
Apart from Manchester United, there are other clubs looking at the Dutchman.
With Ten Hag’s side pushed forward as the main contender and the Blaugrana ready to sell, Mundo add that Barca ‘will wait for the call’ from United [or another club] for De Jong.
