Uruguayan side Peñarol remain optimistic about the transfer of Facundo Pellistri to Manchester United.

Speaking to Sport Witness, club vice-president Rodolfo Cantino confirmed that the negotiations are on their way to being completed on deadline day.

“It’s still not closed, but we expect it to be done in the coming hours,” Cantino told Sport Witness.

Manchester United are expected to spend US$10m to trigger the youngster’s release clause at the Montevideo side. Even though reports said there was a chance he could stay on loan until January, Cantino says that is unlikely to happen.

“If they trigger the release clause, of course he’s going now.”

Manchester United have been linked to Facundo Pellistri for a few months, with former coach Diego Forlan confirming that he’s spoke to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about the player.

With the Red Devils about to complete a deal for Atalanta wonderkid Amad Traoré as well, there’s been so doubts if they could end up giving up on the arrival of Pellistri. But the South American kid seems to be on his way to Old Trafford, just like his compatriot Edinson Cavani.
