Club Brugge have been urged to avoid trying to sign Kevin de Bruyne from Manchester City this summer as he’s an expensive risk for them.

Voetbal Primeur cover comments from analyst Franky van der Elst today on the matter as he continues to discuss De Bruyne this week.

De Bruyne has been linked with a move away from Manchester City at the end of the season as Pep Guardiola seemingly plans a major overhaul.

There is a feeling that there will be massive change at the Etihad after a disappointing season and several of the old guard, which De Bruyne is undoubtedly a part of, will be on their way.

It’s been a frustrating season for the midfielder as injuries have again limited his time on the pitch and Guardiola has used other options when he has been available.

That was the case against Real Madrid this week, with De Bruyne left on the bench for that defeat, something that Van Elst commented on, admitting it left his heart bleeding for his countryman.

He also stated in those comments that he believes De Bruyne should head to MLS this summer if given the opportunity. That’s something he appears to be sticking too as he urged Club Brugge to avoid any effort for him.

“Perhaps Bart Verhaeghe can check him once, but you are also with Vanaken,” Voetbal Primeur report him saying to Het Nieuwsblad.

“I think it’s a very expensive risk for Club. Suppose he is coming and going through a season like Jan Vertonghen now at Anderlecht … I wouldn’t do it.

“De Bruyne is not like Vertonghen, Alderweireld or Lukaku. The latter has been calling for years that he wants to close his career at Anderlecht. Kevin is different.”
