Club América need to ‘take advantage’ of defender Sebastián Cáceres in December, after already turning down a bid from Tottenham for him this month.

That’s according to journalist Roberto Haz, who believes the Mexican side need to use the player’s rising status to their advantage after a star performance against world champions Argentina.

Cáceres was a key part of Uruguay’s 2-0 win over Argentina on Thursday, putting in a superb defensive display for Marcelo Bielsa’s side and keeping the likes of Lionel Messi, Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez quiet in the famous victory.

It was the latest impressive showing from the defender, who appears to be earning himself plaudits and admirers in Europe.

Tottenham are one of them, with reports over the last few months indicating that they are interested and one earlier this month even stating that they had seen a bid rejected for him.

The defender’s asking price is likely to be rising as his performances earn attention and Haz believes his club need to take advantage as other clubs potentially join Tottenham in the hunt.

Labelling the player as ‘the wall of Uruguay’, he made his feelings clear on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Sebastián Cáceres had a great game against Argentina, he didn’t let Lionel Messi, Julián Álvarez, Lautaro Martínez and company pass him,” he said.

“América has to take advantage of the fact that in December there will be many offers for the Uruguayan.”
