Ajax should make a quick move for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Joel Veltman as he is the exact type of person they need to get out of their current predicament.
That’s according to former Ajax youth product Dico Koppers, who believes the Brighton made would be an ideal signing for the Dutch giants.
Ajax currently find themselves at the bottom of the Eredivisie table after managing just 1 win in eight games this season.
The former Champions League finalists are in something of an institutional crisis, with the manager already replaced and several board members and parts of the upper hierarchy at the club replaced.
There is no doubt that they are in crisis at this moment in time, with questions over the current squad and transfer business and then the direction they are moving in as a club, which at the moment in downwards.
Big change is needed moving forwards and Koppers believes one obvious choice is to bring back players who know the club, like Veltman.
“You need some more fighters. At the moment you don’t really have them in the team, but the boys will have to pick that up,” he said.
“Joël Veltman, for example, who now plays for Brighton & Hove Albion, that would be a good addition. But yes, he is of course in a good place there. But you have to look at those types of boys.
“Boys who also have a heart for the club, who even if you don’t win seven or so games, realize that it is a crisis. Now you have the feeling that the boys know that it is bad, but it is much deeper with the supporters and the club than they think.”
