Following the news from the Netherlands that Arne Slot was on the list of candidates to take over from Antonio Conte at Tottenham, there has been a bit more talk about it.
The Dutch manager was already approached by Leeds United earlier on in the season, only for Feyenoord to stand in his way, as he is currently leading them to the Eredivisie title.
However, the Tottenham job could be a far more appealing one for Slot, who has ambitions of his own, and that’s why his current club are being urged to sign him to a new contract by journalist Mikos Gouka, who spoke to the AD Voetbal Podcast, relayed by FR12.
Looking at what Atlético Madrid have built under Diego Simeone, he advised Feyenoord to do the same with Slot, who might be tempted to go elsewhere.
He said: “It’s like if Feyenoord double his salary, or maybe more, they’ll be without money right away. I’m not at the table at Feyenoord and I’m not with the management, but why not do this once? If you are so satisfied with a manager, you say ‘We want you to stay at Feyenoord for another two years’.
“There’s this salary in return, you’ll be Feyenoord’s best paid manager ever, but then we don’t want any whining when Spurs turn up on your doorstep either, because for the next two years, you’re ours.”
There’s clearly some fear there that Tottenham could seriously make a move for Slot, which is why Feyenoord are being told this by those covering the club.
Now, it’s up to Daniel Levy to see if he can beat them to a renewal, or simply decide to go elsewhere to replace Conte at Tottenham.
