Stranded at Atlético Madrid until the end of the season, Lucas Torreira will need to find himself a new club in the summer.
The Uruguayan has little to no future at Arsenal, where Mikel Arteta has different plans for his midfield, and while he showed some good determination to fight for his position in Spain, the move simply hasn’t worked out for him.
Once he returns to the Emirates, few would be surprised if he decided to head back to Serie A, where a number of teams would welcome him with open arms.
Fiorentina are one of those, with reports of talks already underway regarding a summer move, but Luca Borriello, who has worked for various clubs as a scout, believes he would be great for Napoli.
“He’s a complete, versatile player, who makes his presence felt in the middle of the field and can illuminate the game of the whole team. I always wonder why others teams don’t buy such a player at that price. The market has changed, the prices of the players have changed with the Covid emergency, but if I were Napoli, I wouldn’t let him escape”.
For Borriello, the Arsenal man is simply ‘the best midfielder for quality to price ratio in Europe’, and would have the ‘ideal characteristics for the game Napoli play’.
Could Gennaro Gattuso turn Torreira into the next him? That’s something many would love to see, but first, the Serie A side need to show some interest, which hasn’t really been the case so far.
Perhaps once Tiemoué Bakayoko returns to Chelsea, then they’ll consider it?
