Ajax should avoid a move for Christian Eriksen this summer, given he couldn’t force his way into Manchester United’s plans this season despite their injury issues.
That’s according to journalist Valentijn Driessen, who is wholly against the idea of the midfielder returning to his former club.
Eriksen has been linked with a return to Ajax this summer, with several reports making it clear he could be part of a mass exodus at Old Trafford and new owners INEOS plan to change things up.
The Denmark international is now in the final year of his deal with Manchester United, meaning the club have a decision to make over him this summer if they wish to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
A return to Ajax could make sense for all parties and has been suggested, with it believed the Dutch giants are looking for players with the so-called Ajax DNA as they look to rebuild themselves following a disastrous few years.
Eriksen would fit the bill after coming through Ajax’s youth ranks and making 163 appearances for them before joining Tottenham in August 2013.
Driessen, though, believes that Ajax should be avoiding any effort for the Manchester United man.
“Manchester United had 120,000 injuries and he was mainly on the bench,” he said.
“He doesn’t get a chance at number eight in the Premier League, so what is your point in the Netherlands?
“You want to continue to grow and then you should no longer be in the Eriksen category. He was a very good player, but that has been and gone.”
