Over the past week or so, the main story in Italy involving Manchester United is that of Diogo Dalot and AS Roma’s interest in the player.
It stems from José Mourinho, who was at the helm when the Portuguese right-back was bought by Manchester United, but his former side aren’t playing ball.
Tiago Pinto is said to be hard at work on trying to get a deal done, but the Red Devils are currently digging their heels, wanting to cash in on the defender if possible.
That’s why both Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport are rather pessimistic about a deal getting done, with the former claiming that Manchester United are being a ‘severe obstacle’ in their goals.
AS Roma want a loan with a view to buy, which the Premier League side are against, and the latter of the two sources believe Ed Woodward and co. are after a loan with an obligation to buy of ‘over €10m’.
That’s seen as ‘too much’ for the Serie A side, and this stalemate, similar to the one between the Italians and Arsenal for Granit Xhaka over the summer, means that Dalot risks ‘warming the bench until June’ despite his ‘desire to arrive in the capital’, meaning Rome.
For a deal to happen, Manchester United need to give in a little, but we all know they rarely do that in these situations, with the Chris Smalling debacle a good example of that.
