On the final days of the transfer window, we’ve seen Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani being linked to a couple of clubs. One of them were Barcelona.

That rumour didn’t last very long, since the Uruguayan media soon managed to speak to the player’s brother, who turned down that story.

Now we see some insistence on it, because according to the Italian media, there was actually one more club who the 34-year-old could’ve joined this summer.

Calciomercato writes that Cavani was offered to both Barcelona and Juventus. That allegedly happened ‘to free up Cristiano Ronaldo’s place and vacate the number 7 shirt’.

The outlet doesn’t give a reason why Barcelona didn’t go for the signing, but regarding Juventus, it’s said they ‘never took Cavani into consideration’.

It’s claimed the issue wasn’t technical, but economic, since the striker makes €9m per year at Manchester United.

One of the Old Lady’s biggest moves in the market was the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, which allowed them to save considerable money, and they weren’t interested in replacing him with another experienced player.
