Despite AC Milan’s strong pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, it seems the Rossoneri may now see some competition for the signing this summer.
Gazzetta Dello Sport writes that Lazio joined the race for the 27-year-old, and now are ‘trying to overtake’ their Serie A rivals.
The outlet recalls that the Biancocelesti had already made a move for the Chelsea player a year ago, and are now making a new attempt.
The talks with Milan have been well underway, and it’s even said that Loftus-Cheek agents had planned a contact with Milan chiefs.
However, there’s a bit of a ‘revolution’ going on at the Rossoneri right now after Paolo Maldini was sacked, and that’s why the talks have been ‘skipped’ for now, even though that didn’t stop the player from saying he’s ‘ready’ to speak to the club.
What Lazio are trying to do is to take advantage of the situation. On their side, they also have Maurizio Sarri, who has previously worked with the midfielder at Chelsea and with whom he has a ‘strong’ relationship.
The Blues reportedly valued Loftus-Cheek at €20m, which the Italians would like to negotiate down, but a potential auction between Italian clubs can only be good for them to make a good sale as they look to get some money in before June 30th.
