It appears that, as things stand, Everton still have the tiniest of upper hands in a potential deal for Malcom, mostly due to the fact they will most likely give Bordeaux what they want.

On Thursday, it emerged that Roma, already looking to spend the Alisson money, were going to hold talks with the Brazilian’s agent, with the forward wanting to move to Italy over Liverpool.

We speculated the reason for that was because the Serie A side would be playing in the Champions League, and Gazzetta dello Sport have confirmed that on Friday.

Furthermore, the Italian newspaper reveal Monchi, while keen on Malcom, isn’t prepared to spend the €40m Bordeaux are asking for, and would like some kind of discount.

Ready to offer Malcom €2.5m/year, which equates to around £43k/week, Roma appear to be fully banking their Champions League card.

Gazzetta do state Everton are pushing hard to counter the Italians’ advances, and you’d expect a rich Premier League club like the Toffees to offer Malcom more money than what the Romans have put on the table, both for club and player.

Sky Italia back this idea, and report Roma have already made an offer, which is in excess of €35 million including bonuses, expecting a response from Bordeaux in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Sky also state Everton have put €40 million including bonuses on the table, but Malcom’s agent and intermediaries are working hard to convince Bordeaux to accept Roma’s offer.

They also want to ensure the Giallorossi can improve their offer so that it can be close to what the Toffees are offering, if needed.

We said on Thursday it would most likely come down to money vs Champions League, and that’s exactly what’s happening.
