Gazzetta dello Sport report that Napoli are trying to force an English auction for Manolo Gabbiadini. It’s claimed the two main clubs in the chase are West Brom and Southampton, with Leicester City and Watford also having an interest.
Either Gazzetta have plucked it from thin air or Napoli don’t believe Tony Pulis, because the West Brom boss has already tried to talk down the claims. Gabbiadini, 25 years of age, doesn’t seem an obvious Claude Puel target either, especially with Napoli trying to push for a fee which probably outweighs the player’s value.
It may be West Brom and Southampton said to be leading the chase now, but Gabbiadini has been linked with around half of the Premier League since the beginning of the summer transfer window.
Gazzetta say ‘Napoli hope to unleash a real auction’ among the English clubs mentioned, but they’d need ‘real’ interest in the player for that to happen.
The Italian club are looking for a fee of around €20m to €25m and they believe the money madness of the Premier League will sooner or later provide it.
