It’s the 15th day of January, and we’re starting to consider we may have 16 other stories about Reading’s Tiago Ilori to write this month.
That’s because the Portuguese press has been restless about the rumour, and keep insisting on having daily updates on Sporting’s chase for the player.
On Monday, we’ve covered an article from newspaper O Jogo saying things weren’t looking good for the Lions, since both Reading and Ilori weren’t interested in the transfer.
However, Record comes up with their own version today, which is a little bit different and shows that Sporting actually have a chance to land the defender in January.
The newspaper says that Reading are demanding €3m for the transfer and will not decrease their demands.
Sporting’s last offer was of €2.2m, but besides being too low, there was also the issue of the payment method, as the Royals don’t accept it to be made in instalments. There’s also the issue that Reading’s new manager José Gomes wants to keep the player.
Contrary to O Jogo, Record claims that Ilori wants the transfer, and that’s what Sporting will rely on to get it done.
However, the Lions still don’t want to pay that much for a player who will be their third or fourth option for central defence.
