Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has been in inspired form this season, and that was quite clear from his performance against Manchester City, when he saved a couple of spot-kicks.

However, the Merseyside club have been linked with a move for another goalkeeper in the near future. A few days ago, Italian website Calciomercato reported Everton are ‘absolute favourites’ to sign Juventus’ Neto.

The 27-year-old signed for Juventus on a free transfer from Fiorentina last summer, and has been pushing for a move due to a lack of playing time.

According to a latest report on Calciomercato, Massimiliano Allegri is set to start Neto in their next Serie A match against Sampdoria.

Juventus want to use the opportunity to convince Neto to stay at the club, as they see him as possible replacement for when Buffon retires.

The Turin club are reluctant to let Neto leave on a permanent deal, and previously there was talk of a loan deal.

It’d be interesting to see if Juventus will give Neto regular playing chances from now on to keep interested clubs away from him.

Everton interest continues to be reported, and the player’s agent confirmed to Sport Witness earlier this month that there had been contact during the summer. However, on the possibility of a deal being found, he was clear:  “No, absolutely no.”
