Chelsea have been named as Matthijs de Ligt’s suitors for months and the Blues are now joined by Liverpool in the chase for the Juventus star.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who state that Jürgen Klopp’s side are ‘thinking’ about the defender.
Liverpool are keeping an eye on the 22-year-old, while the Serie A side are working to tie him down to a new deal.
The Netherlands international’s contract expires in 2024 and includes a buyout clause of €125m. As per the report, the new deal would include a ‘lower release clause’.
De Ligt signing an extension with the Old Lady would not mean ‘100 percent confirmation’ of his stay at the Turin club. Liverpool are dragged into the mix as it’s explained the Reds are thinking about signing the Dutchman.
The ex-Ajax man is ‘fine in Turin’ and has ‘no plans to leave’ the Serie A side. Juventus, meanwhile, are waiting for a response from the player, who is evaluating their renewal offer.
Calciomercato warns Juve must ‘watch out’ for the Premier League sides, where Liverpool are named as a suitor. Any transfer to Anfield would be a surprise, given the costs involved in a deal and that central defence isn’t really an area Klopp needs to strengthen this summer.
