In 2017, Saul Niguez signed a nine-year contract extension at Atletico Madrid and his current deal with the Europa League winners runs down in 2026.
Last week, ESPN came up with a report claiming that Manchester City are closing in on a summer deal to sign the midfielder.
It was stated a fee of €80m would be sufficient for the Premier League winners to convince the La Liga outfit to sanction the 24-year-old’s sale.
Sources told Sport Witness the Spain international is not close to joining Pep Guardiola’s side and the English club have not made any contact to secure the services of the versatile player.
Rumours linking Saul with a move to Etihad haven’t stopped and reports in England claim City are willing to pay €100m to land him in the summer.
This has been picked up in today’s edition of AS and they claim that despite Saul’s dip in form this season, he is still viewed as an important player for the future.
If City are still interested in signing Saul, Atletico will refer them to his buyout clause of €150m.
It is highly unlikely Manchester City would spend such an amount and this story probably needs to shuffle off now.
