Sevilla are eyeing a move for Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani, who is ‘practically ostracised’ at Old Trafford.
That’s according to Fichajes, who name the Uruguayan as one of the three options that Sevilla chief Monchi is looking at to bolster his forward line in January.
They explain that Sevilla need to go into the market after learning that Youssef En Nesyri is going to be out of action for at least three months with an injury, leaving a gaping hole in Julen Lopetegui’s side.
It’s a ‘major problem’ that they’ll have to try and fix, and now the club will have to ‘seriously consider’ looking at options in the January transfer window.
That will be down to Monchi, who already has three options on his list of potential targets for the window.
One of those is Cavani, who has been ‘practically ostracised’ at Manchester United following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer.
That’s made a departure possible, and the chance to join Sevilla, where he would be the ‘main offensive reference’ in the team, could prove tempting.
A move for Sevilla seems ‘almost impossible’ but would not be ‘exorbitant’ given the player’s situation at Manchester United at present.
We’re not entirely sure what that means, but it reads like Sevilla could tempt Cavani to take a pay cut and fit into their structure with the offer of regular first-team football that he isn’t getting, or likely to get, in Manchester.
We can certainly see that being a thing, although it does ignore the fact he’s been back in the team of late after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer changed his system.
That worked to great effect against Tottenham and looks like something United will be sticking with for the foreseeable future, meaning Cavani will be getting the playing time he wants and rendering a move unlikely.
That remains to be seen, of course, and we’ll keep an eye on what they say in Spain, where at the moment Cavani has both Barcelona and now Sevilla thinking about moves.
