Croatian claims Ivan Rakitic was on the verge of a transfer to Manchester City didn’t really stack up. The article from Croatia sounded like it was written on the word of someone who had presented themselves to Jutarnji List as ‘in the know’ and it quickly fell to pieces.
Jutarnji List even had the cheek of later referring the rumours as having been pushed by ‘the world media’, rather than taking responsibility, and of course credit, for a story which was very much their exclusive.
The claims obviously made their way to the Spanish media, and it’s pretty clear there’s nothing in it. Ivan Rakitic wants to stay with Barcelona, and isn’t pushing for a move to Manchester City.
Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo report on Wednesday that Rakitic’s agent was at ‘The Best’ FIFA awards this week and used that opportunity to talk with Barcelona officials.
The steps towards a renewal are in progress and Barcelona were assured the claims coming from Croatia about Manchester City were nonsense.
Rakitic isn’t interested in listening to offers from Manchester City or anyone else, preferring to concentrate on his Barcelona future.
