Former West Ham United assistant Nikola Jurčević has backed summer signing Nikola Vlasic to be a big success at the London Stadium.

The Croatian arrived at West Ham on deadline day of the summer transfer window in a £27m deal from CSKA Moscow, where he had spent the last three years follow a move from Everton.

The midfielder was a big success in Russia, racking up 33 goals and 21 assists in 108 games for the club and starring in the Champions League on several occasions.

His move to West Ham is a second shot at life in the Premier League after an unsuccessful spell with Everton earlier in his career.

He joined the Blues from Hajduk Split in 2017 but failed to settle at the club, managing just 19 games as turmoil and managerial change led to him being frozen out.

It was that which led to an initial loan move for CSKA, which was later made permanent, but Jurčević, who was Slaven Bilic’s assistant during his time in charge of the Hammers, does not see a repeat.

“Moyes praises him a lot, which does not surprise me because we all know Vlašić’s qualities,” he told Sportske Novosti.

“He came to Everton as a very young player, and he also had the misfortune that they fired Koeman who brought him. He is now more experienced, better, extremely ambitious.

“West Ham is, I would say, just a club tailored to him, a club where he can show if he is capable and ready to go to the highest European level.

“Vlasic is versatile; he can play practically all positions in the offensive segment, which Moyes obviously knows well.

“I believe that everyone will profit with Vlašić in the locker room.”
