Flamengo have finally taken a formal step for the signing of Chelsea winger Robert Kenedy, according to reports from Brazil.

Globo Esporte reports that at the weekend, the Rio de Janeiro side have submitted a formal offer for the transfer of the 25-year-old on a loan spell.

Kenedy has been called by Chelsea to have the pre-season in London while his situation is sorted, and agent Giuliano Bertolucci is the one handling the talks for the move.

It seems there’s still no response from the Blues so far, although recent reports from Brazil have been claiming that the Stamford Bridge side will wait and see if the player gets some offers from Europe before they loan him out to a South American side.

Flamengo announced on Saturday the arrival of manager Renato Gaúcho, and in a press conference, football vice-president Marcos Braz confirmed that the club are engaged in talks for some players as well.

“On Kenedy, we depend on Chelsea’s release and we’re trying. Thiago Mendes, Bruno is trying tirelessly with Lyon. Flamengo will not buy any players. We intend to bring them on  loan and, if possible, with no financial cost. This leaves us fragile in the negotiation, very different from other times. We must have patience,” he said.
