Even though Nottingham Forest continue to be very quiet regarding the arrival of Palmeiras midfielder Gustavo Scarpa as a free agent next year, the Brazilian media keeps sharing some information on his situation.
Outlet UOL today writes that despite having a pre-contract signed with the Reds for a January move, the 28-year-old could’ve had his transfer called off, but that hasn’t happened.
The story says Palmeiras ‘studied the possibility’ of paying around €5m to cancel Scarpa’s deal with Nottingham Forest.
Instead of seeing him walk for free from Brazil at the end of his contract, they were thinking of a manoeuvre to keep him at the club.
The fine, however, wasn’t paid because the player himself ‘did not want to dishonour the agreement’ he had with the Premier League side, so his move to England is still on.
The Brazilian club took too long to renew the midfielder’s contract.
As reported by UOL, they only started talks with him this season, in the final year of his contract. It’s said that by that time there were already ‘advanced talks’ for a pre-deal with the Reds.
The salary Scarpa will make at Nottingham Forest is something Palmeiras ‘could easily covered’, according to the story.
So the player is really making the move because of his wish of featuring in European football rather than doing it for the money.
