João Virgínia’s expected transfer from Everton to Sporting continues to be a theme in the Portuguese media.

For a few days it’s been reported the goalkeeper is expected to travel to Lisbon on Thursday so he can complete his move to Sporting. There’s been a delay after the 21-year-old tested positive for Covid-19, and it’s thought that today is the end of his isolation.

To travel he still needs to produce a negative test, and the process of that could be why the reports have now changed a little, with A Bola saying the player is expected ‘today or tomorrow’.

Either way, Sporting are ‘strongly convinced’ they’re getting the signing, and he’s expected to watch his new club against Belenenses on Saturday.

According to A Bola, Everton will be paying a ‘very significant’ part of Virgínia’s wages over the period of a one year loan. There’s no loan fee, and Sporting will have a purchase option of €3.5m.

That sounds like a really good deal for the Portuguese side, especially given Virgínia has a contract with Everton until 2024 and counts as a homegrown player, given he moved to England in 2015 when he signed for Arsenal.
