A couple of days ago, claims from the Italian media reported the efforts from Newcastle United to sign Benfica star Darwin Nunez, with the Magpies offering £50m for the move.
Portuguese outlet O Jogo covers the claims today, this time responding to an update which said the Eagles had turned down that bid.
It turns out that, according to the newspaper’s sources, Benfica have not received any offers from Newcastle so far.
Still, they learned that Nunez is a target for the Magpies, who ‘already got informed’ about the player at the end of last year.
With 18 goals scored so far, Darwin Nunez became Benfica’s sensation this season, with his success being the reason for several rumours about his future.
The striker was linked to a few Premier League sides, with Newcastle already getting a few mentions since November.
The word in the Portuguese media is that the Eagles will not accept to negotiate his sale in January, and are looking to make at least €50m in the summer, while he’s protected by a release clause worth €150m.
