To the surprise of many, Napoli made a first bid for Max Kilman earlier this week, which was quickly turned down by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Serie A side have identified the Wolves giant as the ideal replacement for the departing Kim Min-jae, who will be signing for Bayern Munich, and the first move was made.
Corriere dello Sport touch upon what has happened since on Tuesday, and reveal Napoli are still ‘negotiating’ with the Premier League side to try and get a deal done.
The first offer was of €35m, and Wolves value their star defender at €40m, meaning there is but a small gap to bridge to get a deal done.
Seen as the ‘perfect heir’ to the South Korean centre-back, he is the ‘first goal’ over in Naples, but isn’t their only one, with a back-up plan already in place.
That man is Real Sociedad’s Robin Le Normand, who has a release clause of €60m, and it seems unlikely the La Liga side will want to negotiate that.
We’ll have to wait and see, but Napoli are currently focused on Wolves’ Kilman, and will likely exhaust that avenue first before moving on.
