On September 2nd, we covered claims made by NTV Spor explaining that Beşiktaş made an ‘official offer’ to sign Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny.

It was also stated the Turkish club were planning to add the 29-year-old to their UEFA list, if the deal was concluded on Thursday.

The deal for the Gunners midfielder, who spent the 2019/20 season on loan with the Black Eagles, didn’t go through yesterday and Beşiktaş ended up signing Barcelona’s Miralem Pjanić on a loan deal.

Milliyet also explain the Süper Lig winners took action to acquire the Egypt international’s services in the last few days and started ‘official negotiations’ for Elneny, following their manager, Sergen Yalçın, requesting they do so.

During the meeting with Beşiktaş and Mikel Arteta’s man, the Istanbul based club failed to find an agreement.

This forced Beşiktaş to look at the ex-Juventus man and they quickly completed Pjanić’s loan signing yesterday.

Elneny started for the north London club in the League Cup win over West Bromwich Albion and came off the bench in Arsenal’s crushing league defeat to Manchester City.
