Mario Gomez doesn’t want to spend another year at Besiktas, having been there last season on loan from Serie A’s Fiorentina. Gomez isn’t content with the current situation in Turkey, and is therefore looking for a new opportunity, with a continuation at Fiorentina apparently unlikely.
West Ham have been linked with a move for Gomez, which is no surprise given they’ve been linked to so many other strikers. However, Calciomercato quote (via a Turkish news agency) Besiktas spokesman Metin Albayrak as saying the Hammers aren’t interested.
Albayrak explained: “We still hope to have him with us, and so do our fans. But it is very difficult, we are following the situation closely and we know that Mario is in contact with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund. This morning I spoke on the phone with Slaven Bilic, who assured me that West Ham is not interested.”
If Bilic was completely honest, and isn’t simply trying to get a deal done without having to speak to Besiktas about it, then that is that. Gomez still seems to have some pretty good options open to him.
