On December 23rd, Shkodran Mustafi’s agent confirmed he’d travelled to Barcelona to hold talks with the Catalan club over a potential move for the Arsenal centre-back.
Emre Öztürk’s quotes have been relayed by Sport and they provide the La Liga side’s stance on the Gunners defender, who has been ‘offered’ to the Camp Nou side.
It’s claimed the Blaugrana ‘like’ the profile of Mikel Arteta’s man and he is viewed as an option, if Barca plan to sign an experienced centre-back in January.
However, Manchester City’s Eric García still remains the No.1 target, and like Mustafi, the Spain international has a contract expiring next summer.
According to the report, Ronald Koeman’s side will do everything to sign the Citizens player next month.
If they fail to do so, Barcelona will sign a pre-contract agreement with García, so that he can join them on a free transfer after this season.
Mundo Deportivo also explains the City defender remains the priority target for the Spanish giants.
Regarding the comments made by Mustafi’s agent, it’s stated the representative made a trip to Barcelona to offer his client to Barcelona.
Sources from the club have confirmed to Mundo there was a meeting with Öztürk.
However, it was a ‘simple courtesy summit’ rather than there being any serious negotiations to sign the former Valencia man.
In addition to this, Barcelona are going through an ‘electoral process’ to pick their next president.
Without a confirmation of the new management, a decision on signing Mustafi or any other player cannot be taken.
