Back in January, we covered reports from the French media linking Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby to Newcastle United.
With the Magpies said to be chasing many reinforcements at that time, it was said they wanted to ‘recruit’ the 22-year-old, even though his club had ‘made it known’ they wouldn’t negotiate his sale.
Now it’s L’Equipe who features a piece on the youngster who already has four appearances for the French national team, and besides the many positive comments about his potential, they also bring a word on his future.
The outlet writes that Bayer Leverkusen will do their best to convince Diaby to stay at the club for longer. Even with a contract running until 2025, they want him to be willing to play for them for a few more seasons.
His departure, however, is a possibility which can’t be ignored. And in that case, according to L’Equipe, Bayer would like to make something similar to when selling Kai Havertz to Chelsea a couple of years ago. That means a fee of around €100m.
So if Newcastle are keeping Diaby as a target for the summer window, they better be aware of how expensive he’s likely to be.
