For some time now, it’s been widely accepted that Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori will be remaining in Milan.

One thing that could have scuppered the whole deal was the Serie A side missing out on Champions League football, but a 2-0 win over Atalanta on the last day of the season ensured Stefano Pioli and co. would be playing in Europe’s elite competition next year.

Now that they know the extra money will be coming in, they can focus on bolstering their squad, with Tomori described as a ‘positive note’ for them by Corriere dello Sport.

It’s explained the purchase of the player, set at €28m, is ‘within reach’, especially with the Champions League funds rolling in.

That being said, ‘a minimum of negotiations will have to open with Chelsea’, and there are ‘margins of understanding’ between the two clubs, suggesting a deal wouldn’t be too hard to sort out.

With the Gianluigi Donnarumma exit sorted and him being replaced by Mike Maignan, Tomori should be among next in line to be the centre of attention of Paolo Maldini and co., allowing the Stamford Bridge side to move on from the England international, perhaps reluctantly, and get a new centre-back with the money.
