Even though Benfica were beaten by Liverpool 3-1 in Lisbon in the Champions League’s quarter-finals, there was still something positive from the Eagles’ exhibition, and that was the performance from Darwin Nunez.
The young striker scored the Eagles’ goal, and now added the Reds to the list of victims this season, along with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Ajax.
Now as Arsenal have been emerging in the past few months as one of the contenders to sign Darwin this summer, we get to see the Gunners linked to him once again today.
As newspaper A Bola features a piece on the player’s recent success, they point out a few clubs who’ve been chasing him, getting the information confirmed by his agent Edgardo Lasalvia.
Arsenal are mentioned among those who ‘follow the striker or asked for information not only related to salary and release clause, but also regarding the way he positions himself and moves on the pitch, looking to detail technical characteristics and not only’.
Even though the Portuguese media had been saying Benfica would demand first €60m, then €80m for the sale, it’s now claimed they shall ask for over €100m to accept his departure.
And they can do it, since he’s protected by a €150m release clause.
So if Arsenal are really in for Nunez, they better prepare a huge budget for the summer window.
