The Portuguese press may contradict themselves sometimes, but at this stage of the season, they seem pretty sure of something: Arsenal woned Joel Campbell is not staying at Sporting CP.
This information has already been reported by some outlets this year, and today it’s O Jogo who are confirming it. They claim the decision ‘is already taken’ to send him back to Arsenal, due to the player’s disappointing loan spell at the Lisbon club.
Not even the extension of the loan is being considered, as Campbell failed to impress and contributed only three goals and four assists this season.
The 24-year-old may not be only Costa Rican to be leaving Sporting this summer, as O Jogo’s main story claims that the former Fulham midfielder Bryan Ruyz is also being put up for sale.
Campbell has not only been left out of the starting team, but sometimes he’s not even making it to the match-day squad. Although his start at Sporting was slightly exciting, he hasn’t scored a goal or made an assist since early January.
Campbell’s contract with Arsenal runs until 2018, and Arsene Wenger needs to decide what to do with the player.
