Entering the final day of the January transfer window, clubs are starting to panic a bit.
Some players will also be sweating about their future, and one of those will be Olivier Giroud, wanting to find himself a new club for the second half of the season since he isn’t getting the desired first-team football at Chelsea.
The striker has been a target for numerous clubs, including Inter in Italy, who have been after him for quite some time.
However, as SportMediaSet explain, their inability to convince Chelsea to let the Frenchman go for a reasonable fee led Lazio to overtake both them and Tottenham by sending their director of football, Igli Tare, to London.
This is backed up by TuttoMercatoWeb, who also report the Albanian board member is in the English capital to try and close the talks for the 33-year-old.
That being said, Inter aren’t ready to give up, as Corriere della Sera explain Antonio Conte, after the 2-1 win over Fiorentina, convinced Beppe Marotta there was a need to sign a new striker as Alexis Sánchez still wasn’t fully fit.
Despite Lazio putting their foot in the door, there is still a confidence in Milan that they have the cards in hand to close the deal for Giroud, with the Italian manager, who worked with him at Stamford Bridge, potentially being the ‘trump’ one.
The next few hours are going to be very interesting, and while money will always convince Chelsea in the end, the biggest hurdle will be to change the mind of Giroud’s family, as they appear very reluctant to leave London.
