These days signing young players is as important as signing first-team stars for the big clubs with them competing against each other to hoover up the best young players around.
Las Palmas youngster Pedri found himself as the subject of such interest earlier this summer, as the 16-year-old has been impressing for the Spanish side of late and attracted attention from around Europe.
Chelsea were one of those who were keen on his signature, and we covered a report that stated they had ‘moved strongly’ to try and get him ahead of the competition.
Despite that, they appear to have missed out on his signature with Marca reporting Barcelona have won the race for his signature.
According to the newspaper, Barcelona have taken the upper hand in the race and agreed on a €5m deal, with the player sent to spend the rest of the season at Las Palmas so he can continue his development.
They report Chelsea had ‘active interested’ in the Las Palmas youngster backing up the earlier claims they were keeping an eye on him.
Barcelona have won this time around though, leaving Chelsea to turn their attention to the next highly-rated youngster instead.
