Roma could turn their attention to Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin this summer as they look to sign a right-back for Jose Mourinho.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the defender being in the final year of his deal at the Emirates makes him an attractive option for the Serie A side.
Bellerin has spent this season on loan at boyhood club Real Betis, establishing himself as a key player and helping them to win the Copa del Rey.
They would like to keep him on a permanent basis, and he’d be more than happy to stay, but at this moment in time, the finances are not right for the Spanish side to make it happen.
As such, Bellerin may be forced to look elsewhere, with it clear he is no longer a part of Arsenal’s plans and likely to move on this summer.
That’s where Roma could come into play, with Gazzetta saying he is the ‘identikit’ player for the right-back position under Mourinho.
They say that Bellerin has managed to dispel any doubts on his loan at Betis, and that’s caught Roma’s eye.
Arsenal currently value the Spaniard at €20m, but that figure is likely to go down given he is in the final year of his deal at the Emirates, and they are well covered in that position.
This makes him ‘more attractive’ to Roma, as does the fact he can play as a right-back, wing-back or wide in midfielder if needed.
In short, they believe he would be the ‘perfect fit’ for this team, and thus they may look to do a deal with Arsenal if they’re willing to negotiate on price.
Bellerin is actually one of three players they are looking at, though, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Zeki Celik on a three-man shortlist and the belief one of those players will be Roma’s new right-back next season.
