Earlier on Monday, Italy’s Calciomercato published an article claiming Gerard Deulofeu is pretty much desperate for a move to AC Milan. The Everton player was said to want the transfer ‘at all costs’ and to be ‘pushing, forcing’ his way out of Goodison Park.
The hold up is said to be Everton wanting to get a replacement first, either Memphis Depay or Ishak Belfodil. But Depay is being strongly linked with Lyon, and it’s Everton said to be holding up the Belfodil transfer.
That leaves Milan waiting, but the problem may actually be the Italian offer. Given how little Koeman has used Deulofeu, it’s not as if a replacement is so important the player has to be bought before letting the Spaniard leave.
Milan’s offer of a loan with a redemption right may simply not be what Everton want. If Milan are that keen, and ‘Deulofeu, always and only Deulofeu’ means anything, then surely they can agree to a commitment to buy, set on appearances or achievements between now and the end of the season.
