Before Inter Milan played Tottenham Hotspur for the Champions League on Wednesday, website Calcio Mercato had a story saying the Italian side are interested in two defenders from Spurs.

The first one is Jan Vertonghen.

With the player’s contract with the London side expiring at the end of the season, the Nerazzurri would already be in contact with his agents to see what is possible.

Tottenham, on the other hand, want to give him a new deal. They believe that by doing so, at least some offers from England will arrive for him. That makes it a ‘complicated mission’ for Inter.

What they don’t mention, shock-horror, is that Spurs can extend the deal by a further year, which they of course will.

Now the other one is Juan Foyth, who they say was ‘one step away’ from joining Inter when leaving Estudiantes for Europe in 2017.

Calcio Mercato claims that the club still haven’t forgotten about him, and will keep an eye on the player as a future possibility.

Again, this doesn’t seem right either.

We covered the Foyth saga and the other club he was close to signing for was PSG, Inter hardly got a mention.
