Having wanted the transfer for months before it happened, Riyad Mahrez finally got his move from Leicester City to Manchester City in July 2018. He hasn’t signed a renewal with the club since then, and his current deal runs until June 2023.
There are now claims from Spain of serious interest from Real Madrid.
According to Fichajes, who make it very clear it’s their own information, Los Blancos have ‘Riyad Mahrez on their priority list’.
He’s said to be one of the transfer priorities for Zinedine Zidane’s side ahead of the summer window, as Real Madrid look to refresh their attacking options. There’s no illusion over this being an easy transfer to pull off, and Manchester City would want a big chunk of money for the Algeria international.
Given Mahrez turned 30-years-of-age last month, the former Leicester player wouldn’t represent a great investment, with little chance of a lucrative sell-on option in the coming years.
That makes Real Madrid parting with a big transfer fee feel unlikely, but the claim is being made regardless.
