Fulham defender Kenny Tete could be set for a return to Ajax this summer, with them currently ahead of PSV Eindhoven in the running for him.
That’s according to Soccer News, who relay various information regarding the Fulham defender today ahead of the summer.
Tete is set to be out of contract with Fulham in the summer and as yet hasn’t signed a new deal to extend his stay at Craven Cottage.
He was recently linked with a move to PSV Eindhoven, with Eindhovens Dagblad reporting that numerous players have been offered to the club and the Fulham man is one of theme.
They’ve been ‘charmed by’ the defender for some time, but it was ‘quite a challenge’ to get a deal done because of his salary expectations.
His now expiring contract makes things a little more viable this time around, although he currently earns €3.5m a year and that would still be an issue for PSV.
According to Soccer News there’s only really one club in the Eredivisie who could afford that figure and it’s Ajax.
They are already paying out such salaries and there is a feeling Tete would not want to drop in terms of his current pay packet. Thus, a return to his former club would be first choice.
Ajax already had a ‘positive conversation’ with him last year, but the move was not deemed feasible. Now it is, even with cutbacks being made at the Dutch club, and that should put them ahead of PSV in the potential race for the Fulham man.
