Chelsea have been following Inter Milan young star Cesare Casadei for more than three years.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who explain the 19-year-old’s performances for the Italian club’s Primavera has not gone unnoticed at the west London club. He managed 16 goals and five assists last season while operating mainly as a central midfielder.
The Nerazzurri let go of Nicolò Zaniolo, who has established himself at AS Roma. They want to avoid repeating the same mistake with Casadei, especially with Chelsea showing interest in him.
Inter want to include a buyback clause, if they decide to sell him this summer. The report states this formula will hardly be accepted by the Blues. Therefore, they are demanding €20m from Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Another Italian newspaper, Corriere dello Sport, also explain former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wanted to sign the teenager for the club even before he turned 16.
Inter would prefer to sell the midfielder to another Italian club and include an option to buy him back at a predetermined fee in 2024. The Premier League side, who continue to insist to sign the Italy U19 international, will not be willing to accept this formula.
Correire state: ‘The [Inter] executives would like him to gain experience in Serie A, while maintaining control, but the €60-80m Zhang expects as the balance of the 2022-23 market could give Casadei’s story the same ending as those of [Lorenzo] Lucca and Scamacca.’
La Repubblica also state Inter have rejected Chelsea’s first offer, but that has not put off Tuchel’s side.
In fact, Chelsea will not give up easily, and in the coming days, the Blues will ‘present a new offer’ to Inter for Casadei.
