Wolverhampton Wanderers fans: can we ask you a question?
If your club, the one that has recruited so well over the past few years knowing they would likely make big profits off some of their acquisitions, were to sell Leander Dendoncker for €25m, how mad would you be on a scale of one to 10?
We wonder this because the Italian media really do believe the Belgian, a player capable of comfortably playing as a centre-back, defensive midfielder or a bit further up the pitch, could go for €25m.
Not only that, but Lazio, the one club really interested in the player, feel that figure is ‘still too high’.
That’s what Corriere dello Sport are reporting on Monday, explaining he remains ‘in the front row’ when it comes to their summer plans.
However, they do feel the €25m valuation is a bit much, and they wonder if maybe Uncle Jorge Mendes, who has close ties to both clubs, ‘will help’ Igli Tare, Lazio’s director of football, secure a deal.
We’re not sure what the Portuguese agent would get out of it since he doesn’t actually represent the player, but it’s nice to see they’re so optimistic about it.
The thing is, there’s a fine line between optimism and delusion, and we’re worried Lazio and Corriere are teetering on the wrong side of it right now.
