Pawel Cibicki will not be continuing at IF Elfsborg, the Swedish club have said on Wednesday afternoon.
The 25 year old moved to Elfsborg on loan from Leeds United in the January transfer window. It was a deal greeted with some fanfare at the club, and their official statement made it clear there was a buying option.
Elfsborg have wanted to keep Cibicki but there’s obviously been some issue with the option, and then a total failure to come to an agreement on a straight transfer.
At this point it would appear the Allsvenskan side have given up, releasing a statement on their website explaining the player is returning to Elland Road.
Club director Stefan Andreasson is quoted as saying: “We have not been able to find a solution for a continuation, which means that Pawel returns to England tomorrow. We thank Pawel for this time and wish him all the best.”
Elfsborg was the second loan Cibicki had been on since joining Leeds United in 2017 from Malmo. He moved to Molde last summer, before returning to England and then moving to Sweden just over a week later.
Whether Marcelo Bielsa has any plans for the player is unknown.
